Cleo Reed (née Ella Josephine Julia Moore) is a multidisciplinary artist working across participatory art, music composition, instrument-making, bandleading, and installation. Raised between NYC and DC, they studied at the Harlem School of the Arts and Berklee College of Music. Their 2025 double LP CUNTRY is a sprawling exploration of the rage that comes from grappling with the grips of labor on both the body and in the American workplace. Fusing blues, soul, country, and dystopian electronics, CUNTRY reflects the dueling sides and opposing forces of Reed’s NYC upbringing and Southern lineage. The album was named one of the best records of 2025 by Pitchfork, Stereogum, NPR Music, and That Good Sh*t, amongst other critical acclaim. Reed has performed at the Brooklyn Museum, Lincoln Center, Afropunk, and the New Orleans Jazz Festival, and toured with BadBadNotGood, Sudan Archives, Nick Hakim, Annahstasia, and Armand Hammer.
