The Haggis Horns Celebrate New Album’s Release at Brooklyn Bowl London
Posted On Thursday, September 24th
At the forefront of the UK funk scene, Malcolm Strachan (trumpet/flugelhorn), Atholl Ransome (sax, flute), Rob Mitchell (sax), Ben Barker (guitar), Luke Flowers (drums), Dan Goldman (keys), and Kenny Higgins (bass) are the Haggis Horns, a seven-piece funk extravaganza, winning over fans across the world with their distinctive Northern funk sound combining ass-shaking breakbeats, Afrobeat, soul, and hip-hop with the virtuosity of trained jazz musicians. They’ve performed live with (very) big names like Amy Winehouse, John Legend and the Roots, and Lily Allen. And they’ve released a pair of terrific albums — Hot Damn! (stream it below) in 2007 and Keep On Movin’ (stream it below) in 2010. A third full-length, What Comes to Mind, arrives next week, and the Haggis Horns (below, performing “Hot Damn!”) celebrate its release on 10 October at Brooklyn Bowl London. Two local bands, retro-funk-and-soul octet Crowd Company and funk seven-piece the Getup, open the show.
