Nobody knew that David Robert Jones from Brixton would create a new galaxy within the music-industry universe, a galaxy that would shift the stars and make our world a more beautiful place to inhabit. Not even David Bowie himself.… He dedicated his entire being to art by pushing through musical boundaries, sculpting melodies and poetry into unimaginable forms, and fighting for creative freedom. -1 Here at Brooklyn Bowl London we’ve made a list of the music deities who have publicly expressed their gratitude to Ziggy, Starman, and the Thin White Duke because without him, we wouldn’t have had some of the greatest pieces of music known to mankind. 1. Mötley Crüe -1 Bassist Nikki Sixx referred to Bowie as “one of my all time musical heroes!” 3. Nine Inch Nails Trent Reznor went on tour with his lifelong hero in 1995, even enticing Bowie to join the industrial rock band onstage for a few duets. -1 4. The Smiths -2 Guitarist Johnny Marr wrote a guest article stating, “David Bowie is easily the most influential and important artist to come out of the U.K., for so many reasons — there are musicians who are influenced by him who don’t even realise it.” 5. Nirvana Bowie’s raw honesty in his music had an incredible impact on a young Kurt Cobain, who later covered “Man Who Sold the World,” which became almost as influential as the original. Legend has it Bowie was “blown away” by Nirvana’s cover and that he would “have loved to have worked with him.” 6.
