Seven of the Most Eccentric Tribute Bands You Need to Check Out
Posted On Tuesday, July 21st
Once seen as the misfits of music, tribute bands have fought long and hard to climb the popularity ladder. These men and women live, breathe and believe in their idols, but manage to bring a certain je ne sais quoi to their own church of music. From Guns 2 Roses (part of this Friday’s Tribute Wars III: Guns N’ Roses vs. Bon Jovi vs. Steel Panther lineup at Brooklyn Bowl London) to Lez Zeppelin, these masterminds have the world at their feet begging for more raspy vocals and indulgent entertainment. Check out the wackiest, funniest and simply most hilarious tribute bands of the century.
1. Lez Zeppelin
Founded in New York City in 2004, these girls have gained worldwide critical acclaim for the musicianship, passion and gender-bending audacity they bring to the music of the gods of rock and roll. Girl power indeed!
2. The Misfats
Shirts off, covered in sweat and loving it: These guys labelled themselves as “the fattest Misfits cover band ever!” They’ve changed all the lyrics to be fat friendly, and the world can’t get enough.
3. Mac Sabbath
The self-appointed gods of drive-thru metal, Mac Sabbath, led by
Ronald Osborne, cover the Prince of Darkness and his cohorts,
Black Sabbath. And while these crazy cats don’t bite heads off bats, they do produce gigantic milk-shake straws out of their … we’ll let you use your imagination here. Having seen them at Brooklyn Bowl London, we can definitely say from firsthand experience it was one of the craziest, most out-there shows. We need more!
4. GABBA
Have you ever wondered what would happen if ABBA and the
Ramones made music together? Well, wonder no more because GABBA
are the wonderfully weird tribute to both icons. The British sensations
have been bestowing the world with their lyrical genius, such as “The Pinhead Takes It All,” since 1996.
5. AC/DShe
Sisters are doing it for themselves. An all-female tribute to AC/DC that threatens to melt your face with guitar shredding. Enough said.
6. Beatallica
Yes, really. Beatles classics sung in the awesome power of Metallica, mashing Abbey Road tunes with sinister sounds.
7. Guns 2 Roses
These gents have the attitude and swagger of the Roses circa 1986. This Axl ain’t afraid to call you out, and Slash, well … the hair, the hat, the mad guitar riffs, it’s all there. This tribute band summons the spirit of rock to every show. Trust us: They aren’t one you want to miss.
