RECAP :: Brooklyn Bowl Family Reunion at SXSW 2018

We're still in awe of the unrivaled energy that is SXSW. The Brooklyn Bowl Family Reunion in partnership with Harley-Davidson and Sailor Jerry, our first events EVER in the great state of Texas, showcased 24 of the best up and coming artists over three days and nights at The Historic Scoot Inn. Couldn't make it down to Austin during SXSW? Don't worry, we've got a full recap of our three-day musical fiesta! We kicked off day one in a big way with a day party hosted by yours truly featuring Lawrence, The Shacks, Son Little, and Hop Along stole the show with a high energy set to cap off the Brooklyn Bowl Day party with their righteous blend of grungy goodness. At night, Thissongissick presented their first EVER official SXSW showcase highlighted by EDM hotshot, Louis Futon and closed with an epic Classixx DJ set! Day two began with a loaded daytime session presented by Consequence of Sound. With a bill featuring Hinds, Kweku Collins, Sunflower Bean, and Dr. Octagon, each set was just as awesome than the next. This was one of Dr. Octagon's first shows in over a decade and just a taste of whats in store for when they come to Brooklyn on April 5, 2018. After a Sailor Jerry cocktail (or two) and a chance to win a Harley-Davidson, the Brooklyn Vegan official showcase began with strong sets from Bodega, Ted Leo, and Wye Oak. Bully went at it in a seriously impressive all-out sludgy sweat fest of hardcore indie-rock awesomeness. As day three rolled around, High Brew Coffee in the Roadie Lounge was the cure for all music hangovers. Throughout Friday, you could find acoustic sets with legendary Austin artists and a sneak peek of the documentary King of the Roadies. The festivities started with a conversation between Amy Nelson, Peter Shapiro and Mike Greenhouse about the importance of production crews and roadie life, the Live Like Lovey Foundation and the film King of the Roadies. This was a special moment of appreciation to all the roadies, highlighting their importance within the live music industry! Relix Magazine and Red Roses, Green Gold celebrated Jerry Garcia with a two-hour long jam session held down by the Texas Gentlemen ft. special guests Rayland Baxter, Nicole Atkins, Christopher Porterfield (Field Report), Erika Wennerstrom (Heartless Bastards), Billy Strings and more playing all things Jerry with an especially heartwarming rendition of "Love Light" by Nicole Atkins! The last night of the three-day musical extravaganza was topped off with a huge lineup of music for the Relix Official Showcase with music from Tyler Childers, Hiss Golden Messenger, Ted Leo, and Okkervil River!
