Preservation Hall Jazz Band Bring a Taste of New Orleans to Las Vegas

Coming all the way from New Orleans, Preservation Hall Jazz Band brought the burnin’ jazz to Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas last night. Performing hits like “Go to the Mardi Gras,” they sure kept the crowd engaged. All around the venue, fans were dancing together keeping up the light, happy energy. The seven-member crew performed popular numbers and covers of the biggest jazz songs — and even brought a Latin feel to the night with one of the songs. Saxophone and clarinet player Charlie Gabriel’s solos led the crowd into frenzied excitement, creating a great sense of appreciation for the 83 year old’s playing ability. Bassist Ben Jaffe charmed the crowd so much, one fan yelled, “Ben, you sexy son of a bitch.” He acknowledged the comment shyly and continued introducing the band. The crowd wildly danced as Gabriel sang “I Think I Love You.” And later in the show, Jaffe asked everyone to stand up and shake it, adding that he wanted to “make it in the newspaper for making over 500 people get on their feet and dancing.” The feeling of love and dance was mutual, as the band members were constantly smiling and dancing with instruments in hand.
