Nicola Conte Brings His Wide-Ranging Jazz to Brooklyn Bowl London
Posted On Wednesday, September 9th
A classically trained musician, Nicola Conte is a man of many talents. Among them, he’s an accomplished DJ, producer, composer, arranger, bandleader, and jazz guitarist — artfully incorporating bossa nova and melodies from bits of swinging Italian movie soundtracks into his own modern, electronic acid jazz sound. He’s done standards and written originals, made instrumental music and featured vocalists, investigated the blues and Latin sounds, and experimented with deep jazz and sophisticated pop. But, mainly, Conte (below, playing “Kind of Sunshine”) has always kept it interesting. His most recent full-length, Free Souls (stream it below), came out last year to plaudits from critics. In a glowing review, London Jazz News concluded, “This distinguished album is a remarkable departure for jazz song in general, and a significant step forward for Nicola Conte in particular.” And as terrific as the LP is, you can be sure the recorded music will be even better when performed live. Don’t miss the remarkably talented Nicola Conte at Brooklyn Bowl London on 24 September. London soul-jazz six-piece the Filthy Six open the show.
