Five Nights of the CMJ Music Marathon This Week at Brooklyn Bowl
Posted On Tuesday, October 13th
What began with just two bands and one venue in 1981 celebrates its 35th anniversary when the CMJ Music Marathon kicks off today, running through Saturday. One of the most important festivals to break new music, CMJ packs in audiences across numerous venues throughout New York City. And obviously, Brooklyn Bowl is a big part of that.
Tonight’s Conflict of Interest party features Rochester, N.Y., electro rockers Joywave (stream their debut LP, How Do You Feel Now?, below) alongside Oberhofer, Grace Mitchell, K.I.D., and Bayonne.
FloodFest arrives for two nights: Tomorrow, presenting eclectic New York City trio Blonde Redhead (stream their ninth studio full-length, Barragán, below) with Failure and Whitney.
On Thursday, FloodFest returns with the Welsh rock three-piece the Joy Formidable (stream their second LP, Wolf’s Law, below) and Grace Mitchell and Oscar before DJ Questlove Presents: Bowl Train to cap off the night.
On Friday, the Windish Agency showcases English electronic duo Aquilo (stream their EP, Calling Me, beneath), alongside In the Valley Below, Lewis Del Mar, Beach Baby, the Moth & the Flame, and Cardiknox. And because your night shouldn’t end early, afterward Garcia’s at The Capitol Theatre presents the Jerry Dance Party, paying tribute to Jerry Garcia with superior acoustics and stunning visuals.
On Saturday, Communion showcases soulful duo Powers, Satellite Stories, Broken Hands, and HOWQUA, followed by DJ sets by Mumford & Sons’ Ben Lovett and more. And when that finishes, stick around for DJ Jonathan Toubin’s Soul Clap & Dance-Off with a 1 a.m. dance contest plus a special appearance by energetic R&B crooner Har Mar Superstar to close out this year’s CMJ Music Marathon at Brooklyn Bowl.
