Everything You Need To Know About Sofi Tukker Before Their Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas Show

Sofi Tukker exploded into the dance-pop world, armed with their tropical beats and catchy hooks on the release of their first EP Soft Animals in 2016. Since then, the NYC-based duo have released Treehouse, their highly anticipated full-length album, made the rounds to major festivals, and collected a Grammy nomination, slots on soundtracks, and a spot on Billboard Music's Hot 100. On May 26, Sofi Tukker will be playing Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas for the second time (fun fact - last time they played here they opened for Tove Lo!). 1. Sofi Tukker got their big break from an iPhone commercial.
Apple is to thank for Sofi Tukker's fist claim to fame. In 2015 their song "Drinkee" gained massive popularity after it was used as the soundtrack to an Apple Watch ad. Apple discovered the duo on SoundCloud, and since then have remained huge fans of Sofi Tukker. It's no wonder they chose "Best Friend" for the iPhone X unveiling, and most recently "That's It (I'm Crazy)" for a 2018 iPhone 8 TV commercial. Apple may be Sofi Tukker's biggest fans.
5. "Drinkee" received a Grammy Nomination in 2017 for "Best Dance Recording."
"Drinkee" was the first song Sofi Tukker ever wrote just months after meeting, and it went on to earn them a Grammy nomination for "Best Dance Recording." Unfortunately, the duo lost to the Chainsmokers' "Don't Let Me Down." The nomination, however, has secured Sofi Tukker's place as one of the most popular current American dance acts. The duo has since ranked their first slot on the Billboard Music's Hot 100, with "Best Friend" settling in at No. 14 in the Dance Club Songs category this year.
6. One of the acts opening for Sofi Tukker on this tour made a surprise appearance in their "Batshit" music video.
Believe it or not, Sofi Tukker have only just released their first ever full-length album in April of 2018. Treehouse features a number of hits, with (as many Sofi Tukker fans have come to expect) some creative music videos to accompany them. In the video for the album's single "Batshit," LP Giobbi - a disco rock queen on the rise - makes a cameo as Sofi's partner in crime. 2. They've also soundtracked FIFA. With Sofi Tukker's infectious licks, it makes sense why their songs are in high demand for commercial licensing. Their song "Johny" was featured on the FIFA 17 soundtrack amongst funky indie-rockers Glass Animals (who play The Bowl on Friday, May 18!) and Grouplove -- but FIFA's Sofi Tukker fever didn't stop there. The band was again featured on the FIFA 18 soundtrack with, you guessed it, their instant hit "Best Friends." 3. Their names are actually Sophie and Tucker. It's a common misconception that Sofi Tukker is a single name. However, the electro-pop band's members, Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern, smushed their names together to create the now famous moniker. How logical. 4. The duo went to college together, and with Nicolas Jaar. Sophie and Tucker met while attending Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island when they both happened to be performing at the same art show. The two spent their college years in the wake of Nicholas Jaar's (who studied comparative literature at Brown) incredible influence, as he continued to DJ his college parties even after he had blown up worldwide. This electronic influence still inspires the duo to this day.
