Almost 7 years ago, old friends and partners Peter Shapiro and Charlie Ryan opened the doors to Brooklyn Bowl on July 7, 2009. With live music, Blue Ribbon food, and 16 bowling lanes all confined under one roof, it's safe to say that Brooklyn Bowl is more than your average music venue. Here are 12 interesting facts that make our slice of music paradise all the better:
1.The 23,000-square foot Brooklyn Bowl building dates back to 1882 and was formerly Hecla Iron Works.
2. Brooklyn Bowl is the first bowling alley in the world built for L.E.E.D. certification.
3. Our lights are powered by wind.
4. Our stage is made of recycled truck tires.
5. The bowler’s lounge floor is made of 100% reclaimed cork from Portugal.
6. All of our beer at Brooklyn Bowl is served on tap to reduce waste from bottles and cans.
7. Brooklyn Bowl is part of an incredible family of music-oriented companies including as Relix Magazine, The Capitol Theatre, LOCKN' Festival, Fare Thee Well, Jazz in Colors, Rock and Roll Playhouse, Brooklyn Bowl London, Las Vegas, and more!
8. Brooklyn Bowl has hosted more than 3000 shows to date.
9. The co-founders of Brooklyn Bowl also ran the late, great Wetlands Preserve in TriBeCa from 1989-2001.
10. Questlove has played at Brooklyn Bowl more than any other artist with more than 150 shows, and counting.
11. Brooklyn Bowl has hosted Bill Clinton twice, once in 2009 and again in 2016.
